Prioritize Protecting our Ecosystem!

Last month, I had the incredible experience of diving the Vandenberg for the first time. The sheer vastness of the ship, the vibrant fish, and the remnants of coral made it an unforgettable adventure. The Vandenberg was intentionally sunk 15 years ago as an artificial reef to both provide a habitat for sea life and protection against future storms.

As an active diver, I've witnessed firsthand the alarming decline of our natural coral, especially over the past several years. Local environmental groups are tirelessly working to combat this decline and establish coral nurseries for restoration. These initiatives are crucial, and as your next Commissioner, I will prioritize them.

I believe in thinking long-term. I care deeply about what the Keys will be like in 20 years. My decisions will always consider the future health and sustainability of our environment, ensuring that generations to come can experience the same natural beauty we cherish today.

To further support these efforts, I will be attending the 40th Annual Underwater Music Festival at Looe Key Reef. This event promotes the diving and snorkeling industry, vital to tourism in the Keys, and raises global awareness of our delicate oceanic environment. If you want to learn more about this event and how you can support these efforts, click HERE.

If you plan to attend, look for the ‘Chris Massicotte for Monroe County Commissioner’ shirts. I’d love to meet fellow diving and reef enthusiasts. To discuss our environment and my plans directly, email me at chris@chrisformonroe.com or call me at 305-394-1108. Thank you again for your continuous support!
