I have been on the board of Fair Insurance Rates for Monroe for the past two years. I have learned so much about our home insurance crisis and the root cause of why our insurance rates are so high. Recently I learned of a family trying to purchase a home in a local residential neighborhood and when they received their windstorm insurance bill quote it was an astonishing $17,000. That is $1400+ per month on top of their mortgage immediately making this purchase unaffordable. This is such a hardship to have to bear with a growing family. We need families in our community.  They build roots, get involved with the community and make our islands a better place. They are the foundation of what make up the Florida Keys.

This is why your County Commissioners need to be aware of every cost they burden our taxpayers with. Any additional money that is imposed on families just trying to make ends meet is one more reason they may have to choose to leave. That is why I am running. With the largest tax increase passed last year of 17%, and next year’s increase being another 9%, how much more can we ask from our residents?

People helping people is what makes our community so special, and I am running to help our locals.
