We Can’t Afford To Get This Wrong—Help Us Fight Over Development
One thing was clear from Wednesday's County Commission meeting: our residents are worried about how more development will affect our infrastructure. And they’re right to be concerned.
Kimberly Matthews, the Senior Director of Strategic Planning, shared feedback from about 1,000 residents on how many ROGOs (building permits) the County should request from the state. One of the biggest worries was the strain on our infrastructure.
The County Commission held a workshop in September to discuss this. But many department heads didn’t seem prepared and admitted they hadn’t done much research. They said they could handle more growth, but when asked tougher questions, it became clear that we’re not ready. Relying on this weak meeting to make such a big decision is unacceptable.
Where is the hard data? Why aren’t we hiring an independent company to do an honest evaluation of our infrastructure? Why are we trusting the heads of companies with financial interests in this decision?
The choices we make today will shape the Keys for the next 20 years. We need to be sure our leaders are thinking about that long-term impact. If elected, I will push for real research and smart planning to protect the Keys from over development.
I’m asking for your vote on November 5th so we can protect our home for future generations.
This campaign needs your support to keep going strong. Can I count on you to chip in today? Your donation will help us spread this message and reach more voters. Every dollar makes a difference.
