Key Points Voters Need to Know About the Upcoming Elections
With the Primary Election coming up in just 6 weeks and the General Election happening on November 5th, we felt this was a good time to explain some key points that are important for voters to know.
The Primary Election is on Tuesday August 20th. During this election ALL voters will be voting on School Board Member District 2 and County Commissioner District 5. County Commission District 5 is Tavernier through Ocean Reef, or the Upper Keys. Even though all candidates in the County Commissioner, District 5 race are Republican, because no Democrat qualified to run, it becomes an “open” primary meaning everyone, from Key West to Key Largo, including Democrats and non partisan voters, can vote in this race.
My race for County Commissioner, District 3, will not be until the General Election on November 5th. County Commissioner, District 3, is the West part of Key West, or Old Town and some of Mid Town Key West. However, everyone from Key West to Key Largo will also vote in this race.
There are several other seats that will be voted on in the Primary Election, but those races do depend on where you live or what your party affiliation is if you will be voting on them. This is the time to attend local candidate forums, meet your potential representatives, understand what YOU will be voting on and stay informed on the issues that directly affect where you live to make a decision for our local government.
To ensure you are registered to vote, request a mail in ballot or to learn where you can vote early, go to the Supervisor of Election website HERE!

I would be happy to help educate any resident on where they can attend local forums or how to find those details. An informed voter is a smart voter!
