Chris Massicotte Delcares Candidacy for Monroe County Commissioner

Today, I officially declared my candidacy for Monroe County Commissioner District 3. I am reaching out to my valued supporters, to invite you to join me as a "Day One Donor" and be a crucial part of this campaign, with support from the very beginning.

My decision to run for commissioner is driven by a deep commitment to addressing critical issues and fostering a conversation about the future sustainability of the Florida Keys. As an experienced accountant and auditor, I believe that our community deserves a dedicated advocate who will tackle our challenges head-on.

I’m running for commissioner because we need to address some very significant issues such as spending, taxes, infrastructure, growth, and potential takings cases. What we decide today is going to affect what the Keys will be like in 20 years. We cannot have these important conversations without a campaign and without alternatives to the status quo. As a County Commissioner, I pledge to be a vigilant watchdog, scrutinizing every expenditure and ensuring the wise allocation of resources. I’m running to bring transparency and accountability to the county's budget, which has surged by an alarming 44% in the past two years.

One pressing issue that needs immediate attention is affordable housing. I am committed to making workforce housing more accessible for all residents by tackling rising property tax bills that directly impact housing costs. Renters in the Keys take the biggest hit from runaway property tax hikes, because there are no homestead exemptions on long term rental properties. I’m tired of watching my friends have to leave the Keys, not because they want to, but because they are left with no other choice. The actions of the BOCC over the last two years have made the problem worse, not better.

My vision for Monroe County is one that is financially responsible, transparent, and prioritizes the well-being of its residents. I invite you to join me in the conversation about the future sustainability of our beloved community. Your support as a "Day One Donor" will make a significant impact on our campaign's success.

Sincerely,

Chris Massicotte
